What is a coordinate plane
A grid used to locate points
What is an ordered pair
A pair of numbers, such as (5,-4) used to locate a point in the coordinate plane
What is an origin
An origin is at (0,0). This is the point where the numbers intersect.
What are quadrants
The x-axis and y-axis separate the coordinate plane into four regions called quadrants.
What is an x-coordinate
The first number is the x-coordinate and corresponds to a number on the x-axis
What is a y-coordinate
The second number is the y-coordinate and corresponds to a number on the y-axis.
What are addents and sums
The numbers you add are called addents, The result is called the sum.
What are the opposites
The integers 5 and -5 are called opposites because they are the same distance form 0, but on the opposite sides of 0.
What are additive inverses
Two integers that are opposites are also called additive inverses
What is an integer
An integer is any number from the set (....-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4....) where ... means continues without end.
What are negative integers
Negative integers are integers less than zero. They are written with a - sign.
What are positive integers
Positive integers are inters greater than zero. They are written with a + sign.
