plug-ins - is a program that extends the capability of a browser.
web site - Collection of related Web pages and associated items, such as documents and pictures, stored on a Web server.
web server- Computer that delivers requested Web pages to a computer.
web browser-Application software that allows users to access and view Web pages. Also called a browser.
home page-First page that a Web site displays.
downloading-Process of a computer receiving information, such as a Web page, from a server on the Internet.
url-Unique address for a Web page. See also Uniform Resource Locator or Web address.
link-Built-in connection to another related Web page or part of a Web page. Short for hyperlink.

jpeg-Format that compresses graphics to reduce their file size.
gif-Graphics format that uses compression techniques to reduce file sizes.
thumbnail-Small version of a larger graphic.
animation-Appearance of motion created by displaying a series of still images in sequence.
podcast-Recorded audio, usually an MP3 file, stored on a Web site that can be downloaded to a computer or a portable digital audio player such as an iPod.
virtual reality-Computers used to simulate a real or imagined environment that appears as a three dimensional (3-D) space.
email-Short for electronic mail, the transmission of messages and files via a computer network.
user name-Unique combination of characters, such as letters of the alphabet and/or numbers, that identifies a specific user.
domain name-Text version of an IP address.
mailing list-Group of e-mail names and addresses given a single name. Also called an email list or a distribution list.
im-Real-time Internet communications service that notifies a user when one or more people are online and then allows the user to exchange messages or files or join a private chat room with those people.
chat-real-time typed conversation that takes place on a computer.
chat room-Location on an Internet server that permits users to chat with each other.
voip-Computers used to simulate a real or imagined environment that appears as a three dimensional (3-D) space.
ftp-Internet standard that permits file uploading and downloading with other computers on the Internet.
