political culture is a set of basic values and beliefs about a country or government that is shared by most citizens.

3. stability (how much the opinion changes over time).
What is the most reliable measure of public opinion?
a public opinion poll (modern one)
What is straw polling?
straw polling is a method of poling that asks the same question of a large number of people. Straw polls were used a long time ago and arn't very accurate.
When did modern polling begin?
1930, when George Gallop developed a more scientific polling system that involved 1. sampling, 2. clear questions 3. controls 4. fair reporting results (ones that expl how and when polls were taken and account for sampling errors).

An ideology is a consistent set of beliefs.
What is a political ideology?
A political ideology is a set of beliefs about politics and public policy that creates the structure for looking at government and public policy.
What does a radical want?
A radical wants rapid, fundamental change in all aspects and would resort to extreme means to accomplish such change.
What does a liberal want?
A liberal supports government involvement in welfare and civil rights, and also wants peaceful political and social change w/in the existing system.
What does a moderate want?
A moderate is in between a liberal and conservative and wants some aspects of both. They are generally pretty tolerate and unlikely to hold extreme views.
What does a conservative want?
A conservative wants limited government involvement in social and economic matters. Conservatives also support traditional lifestyles and want gov't to take an active role in promoting national security. They approach change cautiously.
What does a reactionary want?
A reactionary advocates a return to the "old life," and wants the gov't and social order of an earlier time in history. They may be willing to go to extreme means to achieve their goals.
