Network Interface Card. sends and recieves signals

Wireless AP

Wireless Access Point. NIC connects to AP and AP manages network communication.

Wireless Bridge

Connects to APs into single network or connects AP to a wired network.

2 Connection methods for wireless:

Ad hoc and infrastructure.

Ad Hoc

type of wireless network that works in peer to peer. NICs in each host communicate directly with each other. difficult to maintain because connections are created between every individual host.

Infrastructure

type of network that employs and access point that functions like hub on ethernet network., with infrastructure you can easily add hosts and AP can easily be connected to wired network allowing clients to access both wired and wireless hosts.

SSID

Service Set Identifier, aka network namec groups wireless devices together into same logical netowrk. devices on same network have same SSID.
