What is a promoter?
A region of the DNA template where RNA first binds.
What is transcription?
When DNA transcribes into RNA on the template strand.
What is the enzyme that functions transcription?
RNA Polymerase.
What is translation?
When RNA translates into a protein.
What is the organelle which translation functions with?
Ribosome.
What is a TATA box?
Common Promoter which consists of Thymine and Adenine.
What are transcription factors?
Proteins that help RNA polymerase with transcription. Some help binding while others prevent from binding.
RNA grows in what direction?
3'-5' - Left to Right
What causes Transcription to stop?
Hairpin Loop
Where is Poly-A-Tail added to when converting rna to mRNA?
3' end.
What does a splicosome do?
It takes out introns. It binds to both sides of introns causing a bend which removes introns.
How is translation initiated?
Formation of initiation complex.
What stops translation?
Release Factors (Stop Codon)
What is a translocation?
When ribosomes shifts down mRNA to next codon
What is rRNA?
RNA found in ribosomes.
What is tRNA?
A temporary link between amino acids and mRNA that are being translated.
What is mRNA?
Messanger RNA - actual template for amino acid assembley in polypeptide synthesis.
