Anaerobic - Without air, do not require oxygen.

Antisepsis

Prevents and inhibits growth of pathogens (with the usage of antiseptic agents, foams, etc.)

Asepsis

State of being completely clear of pathogens, & non-pathogens like bacteria, viruses, spores, etc.

Bacilli

Rod shaped bacteria, can contain flagella, can product spores. TB, Pertussis, Diphtheria & Typhoid are bacilli bacteria.

Contaminated

Present state of containing pathogens on or within a surface.

Disinfection

The process of destroying pathogens with disinfectants.

Pathogen

A microorganism that is considered harmful or dangerous to the body, causes infection and disease. Commonly called germs.

Virus

The smallest microorganism. Requires a living cell to survive. Highly resistant to disinfection and destruction methods. Spread by human to human contact of bodily fluids.

AIDS

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Caused by HIV. Suppresses the immune system. PT's with this are highly susceptible to infection & diseases like cancer.
