I'm from the office of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

I have stopped in to introduce myself to the owner of the business.

The purpose of the Federation is to promote free enterprise and give independent business owners a stronger voice in the laws and regulations that affect you.

I've stopped in to inform you of a very important piece of legislation that will have an impact on your business.

I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss who we are and how our work benefits your business.

I know your time is valuable, I will keep it brief and to the point.

Introduction

You may recognize our logo or have seen decals on doors and window in the area.

As well you may have noticed our president and CEO, Dan Kelly in the media or locally, our Director of Provincial Affairs, (insert lobbyist here)

This is a partial list of business owners in the area who are working together to solve our common problems.

As you can see we represent every type of business.

One thing you will notice is that they are all business owners.

In your situation, Mr. Jones are you the sole owner or is there a partner who shares the business with you.

We will get back to these later; let me show you how we work.

Mandate

When you consider the important role that Independent Business plays in terms of the number of jobs we create and the amount of taxes we pay, do you think it's important to have a strong voice in the laws and regulations that affect you?

The secret to Our Success is the Mandate package.

It's published and mailed every 3 months which keeps you informed of draft legislation both federally and provincially concerning Independent business; such as government regulations, Taxation and labour legislation.

There are 4 questions on the ballot we give you the arguments pro and con to help you with your decision.

All you do is vote the ballots, make any comments to your MP and Premier and mail them to our tabulation Center this can be done electronically as well.

First we tabulate your ballot and then send it to your elected officials.

This sets up a direct line of communication so that they will know how you want to be represented.

The results are then presented to all levels of government so everyone in a position to either make or influence policy knows how you feel.

Services

As well we publish documents such as "employment contracts", "Labor Standard guide" or "what to do when the tax auditor arrives. "

As a member you will have access to our exclusive business resources department.

Our counsellors will provide basic information up to direct intervention on your behalf to solve a particular problem.

Here are a few examples of how our business resources department can help you, dealing with workers comp, the labour board, CRA is a popular one, or just simple interpretation of a new law or regulation.

Our mission is to ensure that the needs of Independent Business owners are recognized and action is taken.

So that I might highlight some of the issues we're currently working on that affect your business, may I ask how many people do you employ and are you Incorporated?

Impact

The Federation is the political voice for Independent Business; we are however strictly a nonpartisan organization and all government recognizes us and the importance of Independent Business.

Still unless we keep them regularly informed of our point of view on the issues that concerns us we can only hope for the best.

There is an old saying in politics "silence means consent"

That's why our 110,000 members have joined together to raise a unified voice against unfair laws and unneeded regulations and to keep good proposals from going down the drain due to a lack of support.

They aren't content to just hope for the best.

The business people you see here have put their trust and confidence in the Federation and they asked me to invite you to join them and help counterbalance the voice of labour unions and big multinational companies.

These people have access to politicians access to media and the funding to hire their own lobbyists.

Independent business owners don't have that luxury.

That's why they join CFIB.

The Federation really is strength in numbers; they ask you to join them and take direct action to protect your business investment by becoming a member... can they count on you?

Can they count on you?

If the Prospect says how much does it cost?

This is the fee guide designed by our Board of Governors who are business owners just like you and are investing in CFIB as well. For businesses with 250 employees or less we have a ceiling fee of $625 per month so no one can buy our influence. Businesses like yours invest (as per fee guide) per month, I will issue you a tax receipt, it is 100% tax deductible so you will get a good portion back.

All we suggest is that we work together with the Mandate for just 12 months.

We will contact you in about three months to make sure everything is working properly.

This time next year I will meet with you to review our achievements in detail and to make sure you are completely satisfied with our performance.

In other words we are fully accountable to you in person.

May I ask you a question? do you believe in what the CFIB stands for?

Is it whether or not to join or the amount that you need to think about/ talk to your partner / spouse / accountant about?
