8. How to prescribe Bupropion?
a. Used be started 1-2 weeks before the quit date.
b. Usual dosage:
i. 150 mg qd for 3 days then
ii. 150 mg bid.
c. The usual course of tx if 7-12 weeks, but it can be used for up to 6 month as maintenance therapy.
d. Can be used alone or in comb w/nicotine-based tx.
9. MOA of varenicline (Chantix)?
a. Nicotinic receptor partial agonist that may reduce cravings for nicotine, reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms, and block some of the binding of nicotine from cigarettes.
10. AE of varenicline (Chantix)?
a. Neuropsychiatric sx: Changes in behaviour, agitation, depression, suicidal behaviour.
b. Should be used with caution in anyone w/a hx of psych disorder and all persons using the med should be monitored closely for these behaviours.
11. Which smoking cessation products are pregnancy category D?
a. Nicotine inhaler
