Cementum

55% inorganic. Protects root. Provides anchorage for connective tissue fibers of periodontal ligaments.

Primary cementum

Original cementum that doesn't contain bone type cells. Uniform in surface texture.

Secondary cementum

Contains bone type cells. Forms on lower root surface ar result of stimulation, attrition and wear.

Lacuna

Tiny cavities that may contain cementocytes

Canaliculi

Small channels or canals.

Hypercementosis

An anomaly resulting in a thickening of cementum; occurs as a result of constant stress or occlusal trauma.
