Eukaryote

Any of the single-celled or multicellular organisms whosd cell contains a distinct, membrane-bound cell compartment

Prokaryote

Any of the group of organisms primarily characterized by the lack of true nucleus and other membrane-bound cell compartment.

Selectively Permeable

A feature and a function of the plasma membrane that is essential to maintain homeostasis by regulating the passage of some substance while preventing other from entering the cell

Diffusion

A type of passive transport (spontaneous), therefore, it is a net movement of molecules in and out of the cell across the cell membrane along a concentration gradient ( higher concentration to lower concentration)

Facilitated Diffusion

When molecules move (diffuse) via special transport proteins found within the cell membrane.

Osmosis

Tendency of water to flow from a hypnotic solution (higher concentration of dissolved substance) across a semipermeable membrane

Isotonic

Having equal tension or pressure

Hypertonic

Higher concentration

Hypotonic

Lower concentration
