Nucleus
Structure within cell that contains genetic information that controls the cell’s activities. This genetic information is stored on chromosomes
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic Acid. Substance that carries genetic information and controls cell activities. Found in nucleus in Eukaryotic cells
Ribosome
Makes/manufactures important substances for cell functions; eg. proteins
Plasma Membrane
Surrounds cell. Double layered; supports cell and is semi permeable.
Cytoplasm
All the semifluid material inside a cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Network of branching tubes & pockets extending from the nucleus through the cytoplasm to the cell membrane. Transports materials (e.g. proteins) through the cell.
Mitochondria

Power house of the cell turns glucose to energy for the cell.
Golgi
Collect & process materials to be removed from cell. Packages proteins like hormones in vesicles that can be moved out of cell.
Vacuoles
sacs that store or transport food, water or waste products in the cell
Lysosomes
Break down food and other cell material.
Cell Wall
Surrounds cell membrane. Plant cells only. Made of cellulose and provide structure to cell.
Chloroplasts
Plant cells only. Contain chlorophyll and gives green color. Absorb light energy for the process of photosynthesis.
Cytoskeleton
Made up of protein bundles, these structures help support and transport organelles around the cell
Flagella and Cilia
Attached to the outside of cells, these protein structures help in locomotion and moving food to cell.
