What are the phases of Interphase?

G1, G0, S, G2

G1 Phase

Cell growth and preparation for DNA replication. Some cell organelles are replicated.

S phase

DNA is replicated. Each cell has 2× the DNA as it did at the end of G1 phase.

G2 phase

Continues cell growth and prepares materials for mitosis. Protiens make spindle factors.

What are the Phases of Mitosis (M phase)

1. Prophase 2.Prometaphase 3. Metaphase 4. Anaphase 5.telophase

Prophase

Nuclear membrane dissolves and chromosomes condense. Spindle fibers begin to form.

Prometaphase

Sister chromosomes are being moved to middle (before=pro)

Metaphase

Spindle fibers have attached to centrometers of each chromosome. Chromosomes aligned in middle.

Anaphase

Identical chromatides pulled toward opposite sides of cell. Cell has 2x the number of chromosomes now.

Telophase

2 new membranes form

Cytokines

Division of cytoplasm b/tw the daughter cels (occurs after mitosis)

Cytokines- plant vs. Animal cells

Animal cells: cleavage furrow is formed, partitions cytosol

Plant cells: cell plate is built, providing cell wall material for daughter cells.

Apoptosis

Programmed cell death

Somatic cells

Non sexually reproduced, regulated by density-dependant inhabition
