There are seven things that all living organisms do - these are called "Life Processes". An organism is only alive if it does all seven life processes.

M - Movement

R - Reproduction

S - Sensitivity

N - Nutrition

E - Excretion

R - Respiration

G - Growth

Animal and Plant Cells have Three Differences:

BOTH HAVE:

1) A Nucleus: This controls what the cell does.

2) Cytoplasm: This is a jelly-like stuff where all the chemical reactions happen.

3) A Cell Membrane: This is a thin skin around the cell - it holds the cell together and also controls what goes in and out.

ONLY PLANTS HAVE:

1) Cell Wall: A rigid coating made of cellulose - it's gives support to the cell.

2) Vacuole: A large space filled with cell sap - a weak solution of sugar and salts.

3) Chloroplasts: These contain chlorophyll used for photosynthesis. Five

Five Specialised Cells

All cells are adapted to do a particular job in an organism. This is called CELL SPECIALISM.

The sperm cell is ___________ and has a little ____ which provides ________ so it can ____ and find an egg to _______.

The sperm call is very small and has a little tail which provides movement so it can swim and find an egg to fertilise.

It's head contains ______ which allow it to _____ it's way through an _______________ so the two nuclei can ____.

Its head contains enzymes which allow it to digest it's way through an egg membrane so the two nuclei can join.

It contains __________ in the nucleus - these carry genetic information from the _______ - which will be passed on to the ______.

It contains chromosomes in the nucleus - these carry genetic information from the father - which will be passed on the the offspring.

An ovum is ______ and _____ because __ active movement is needed - it's just sits and waits for sperm to find it.

An ovum is large and bulky because no active moment is needed - it just sits and waits for sperm to find it.

It contains ____ which provides a large __________ needed for the developing ____________ , once it's fertilised.

It contains yolk which provides a large food store needed for the developing young organism, once it's fertilised.

It contains ____________ which carry genetic information from the ______ - this will be passed onto the offspring.

It contains chromosomes which carry genetic information from the mother - this will be passed on to the offspring.

It contains ____________ which carry genetic information from the ______ - this will be passed onto the offspring.

It contains chromosomes which carry genetic information from the mother - this will be passed on to the offspring.

A palisade cell is tall with a _________________. It's found on the top side of a leaf - ideal for good ________ of ___ and _____ - both are needed for __________.

A palisade cell is tall with a large surface area. It's found on the top side of a leaf - ideal for good absorbtion of CO2 and light - both are needed for photosynthesis.

They have tiny hairs which filter the air as it blows through.

The hairs sweep ______ (snot) with ___________ and _______ up to the back of the throat, where its __________.

The hairs sweep mucus (snot) with trapped dust and bacteria up to the back of the throat, where its swallowed.

The long root hair cell ________ the _________ of the toot which helps _________ of ________ and ________.

The long hair root cell increases the surface area of the root which helps absorption of water and minerals.

The long root hair cell ________ the _________ of the toot which helps _________ of ________ and ________.

The long hair root cell increases the surface area of the root which helps absorption of water and minerals.

It has a really ____ cell wall, which makes its easier for minerals to _________ into the root itself.

It has a really thin cell wall, which makes it easier for minerals to pass across into the root itself.

Cells, Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems.

A group of SIMILAR CELLS come together to make a TISSUE.

A group of DIFFERENT TISSUES work together to make an ORGAN.

A GROUP OF ORGANS work together to make an ORGAN SYSTEM, or maybe even a whole ORGANISM. E.g. Root hair cells make up root tissue, which makes up the root "organ" system, which works with other systems to make up a plant.

palisade cells...

...make up palisade tissue..

...which, with other tissues, makes up a leaf (an organ)...

...which, with other leaves, makes up the leaf organ system. Various organ systems make up a full plant (an organism).

Remember:

cells --> tissues --> organs --> organ systems --> organisms.

As life processes go, this is the big one - respiration. Without it, you'd be well and truly stuck.

Respiration is a Chemical Reaction.

Respiration happens in energy cell of every living organism. It is the process of releasing energy from glucose (a sugar).

The energy released by respiration is used for all the other chemical reactions that keep you alive. For example, the reactions involve:

~ Building proteins

~ Muscle contraction

~ Keeping Warm

Aerobic Respiration Needs Plenty Of Oxygen

1) Aerobic respiration is respiration using oxygen. It takes place in the mitochondria of animal and plant cells.

2) In aerobic respiration, glucose and oxygen react to produce carbon dioxide and water. This reaction released lots of energy.

The word equation to show what happens in the reaction :

glucose + oxygen --> carbon dioxide + water + ENERGY

Anaerobic Respiration Needs Plenty Of Oxygen

1) Anaerobic respiration is respiration without oxygen.

2) Anaerobic respiration is less efficient than aerobic respiration, so it releases less energy.

3)Because of this, anaerobic respiration usually only happens when cells can't get enough oxygen.
