What is the cytoplasm and what does it do?
contents of a cell that are contained within it's plasma membrane by in eukaryotic cells outside the nucleus
What is the chloroplast and it's function?
specialized organelle in algae and plants that contains chlorophyll in which photsynthesis takes place
What is the cytoskeleton/actin/microtubules?
System of protein filaments in the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell that gives the cell shape and the capacity for directed movement.
-most abundent components are actin filaments, microtubules and intermediate filaments
What is the definition of a living cell?
the basic unit from which living organisms are made, consisting of an aqueous solution of organic molecules enclosed by a membrane. All cells arise from existing cells,usually by a process of division.
What is a gene?
Region of DNA that controls a discrete hereditary characterisic of an organism, usually corresponding to a single protein or RNA.
What is a genome?
The total genetic information carried by a cell or an organism(or the DNA molecules taht carry this information).
What is the golgi apparatus?
Membrane bounded organele in eucaryotic cells where the proteins and lipids made in the endoplasmic reticulum are modified and sorted.
