When approaching the vehicle you should look for |
1- leaning vehicle 2- leaks or puddles under the vehicle 3- lights clear or amber in color and not cracked, broken or missing 4- low hanging limbs or power lines |

Engine |
Remember your ABC's . Abrasions, bulges and cuts 1-Check all hoses for abrasions, bulges or cut no leaks 2- all electrical connections are secure and not corroded, cut ,broken or frayed wires 3- belts should not be frayed , dry rotted and should have no more than 3/4 of an inch of deflection 4- water pump should be properly mounted with no missing or broken bolts and no visible leaks. Belt driven or gear driven ? 5- power steering pump and reservoir should be properly mounted with no missing or broken bolts and no visible leaks. Reservoir should be filled to the proper level , all hoses connecting the two should be firmly connected with no visible leaks . Check for ABC's . Gear driven or belt driven? 6- Air compressor should be securely mounted with no missing or broken bolts. Check all hoses for ABC's . No audible leaks . Gear driven or belt driven 7- check for proper coolant level 8- check oil level |

Steering components |
1- steering shaft should not be bent, cracked or broken. Should be properly mounted with all bolts in place and ujoints properly greased. Should not have more than 10° of play. 2- power steering gear box should be properly mounted , no missing or broken bolts and no visible leaks 3- pitman arm should be properly mounted and not bent ,cracked or broken 4- From the pitman arm the drag link should be properly attached with a castle nut and cotter key . The drag link should not be bent , cracked or broken and should connect to control arm which should not be bent, cracked or broken 5- the tie rod should be properly attached to the control arm with no missing bolts and not be bent, cracked or broken |

Front suspension |
1- spring hanger is securely mounted to the frame with no missing bolts and not bent , cracked or broken 2- leaf springs should not be bent, cracked or broken and should be properly attached to hangers at each end . 3- ubolts should be properly secured and not cracked, bent or broken. look for metal wear to indicate lose ubolts. 4- check steer axle for damage. It should not be bent cracked or broken 5- check shock absorber making sure there's no missing bolts , free of damage and no visible leaks |

Steer tires and front brake components |
1- check break chamber making sure it is free of damage, properly mounted with no audible leaks. 2- check slack adjuster making sure all connecting hardware is in place and with the breaks released there should not be more than 1" of play. 3- inspect the brake drum making sure it's free of damage and break linings . Look for oil indicating a leak and making sure you have a minimum 1/4" of brake lining. 4- check the inside of the wheel, making sure it is not cracked bent or broken and free of any illegal welds. 5- check the inside sidewall of tire looking for any ABC'S . 6- check tread depth , no less than 4/32's 7- check outer sidewall of tire for ABC'S 8- check outer wheel making sure it is not cracked , bent or broken and there are no illegal welds 9- check lugnuts 10- air pressure 11- check hub , there should not be any leaks and hub should be filled to the proper level |
