What is the cytokine which initiates clonal expansion

IL-2

What do activated CD4+ cells differentiate into

Th1 cell which produces IL 2 and IFN gamma

Th2 Cell which produces IL 4 and IL 3

What cytokine does Th1 cell produce

IL2

IFN gamma

What cytokine does Th2 cell produce

IL3

IL4

What are the types of immunity controlled by Th1 and Th2 Cells

Th1 - cell mediated immunity

Th2 - humoral immunity

How does cell mediated immunity work

Th1 cells help macrophages:

Virus and bacteria live inside macrophages.

Th1 cells activate the macrophage to cause it to secrete an inner 'bleach' which kills all viruses and bacteria

How does the body deal with bacteria it cannot kill, e.g.. TB

Immune system walls off the macrophages containing bacteria creating a caveating granuloma

How does humoral immunity work

Th2 Cells initiate humoral immunity. They help B cells make antibodies

What is the concept of T cell help.

T cell binds to dendritic cell containing antigen. Same T cell will bind to B cell presenting antigen on MHC class 2.

Th2 Cell recognises that these are the same receptors and secretes cytokines, which prompt the B cell to release antibodies

B Cells can produce several antibody types, what are thy

IgM, IgA, IgE, IgG

What is the structure of the antibodies

IgM, Pentomer

IgG monomer

IgE monomer

IgA dimer

What causes Th0 cells to differentiate into Th1 and Th2 cells

Th1 - IL 12 or IL 23

Th2 - IL 4

What are the 2 types of leprosy. Which type of Th cell affects each?

Tuberculoid Leprocy

Th1 dominant response

IFN gamma is the activated cytokine

Lepromatous Leprocy:

Th2 is dominant response

IL-4 IL-5 IL-13 are activated cytokines

What are the 2 types of Leishmaniasis. Which type of Th cell affects each

Cutaneous Leishmaniasis :

Th1 is dominant response

Visceral Leishmaniasis

Th2 Is dominant response

What are the 2 types of TB. Which type of Th cell affects each?

Lepromatous TB:

Th1 dominant

Miiliary TB

Th2 dominant

How is type 1 hypersensitivity affected by Th1 and Th2 responses

Th2 responds to allergy causing thing. Leads to production of IL 4. Leads to production of IgE, causes allergies
