Router logic (4-steps)
1. Use data-link FCS field to ensure no errors, if errors discard.
2. Discard the old data-link header/trailer leaving the IP packet.
3. Compare IP packet destination address to routing table & find route that matches destination address.
4. Encapsulate the IP packet inside a new data-link header/trailer, forward the frame.
ARP
Given IP address - find MAC address. Request is broadcast to everyone on LAN. ARP is not used for IP addresses outside of local subnet, because default gateway is used.
