Stalin wanted massive reparations from Germany but the others did not. Instead, they could not only take reparations from the land they controlled (taking machinery and coal etc.) Stalin was allowed to take some industrial machinery from the Western zones but only I'd he swapped it for coal

Truman and Stalin hated each other. Truman wanted to intimidate Stalin with the news that the USA had developed the first atomic bomb.
