Numerical aperature of both the ? and the ? should be ? for maximum potential.
The N.A. of both the OBJECTIVE and CONDENSOR should be EQUAL for maximum potential.
What is the numerical aperature?
This is the index of the light gathering capacity of an objective or condenser. The larger the number, the more light gathered and the higher the resolution.
Does the N.A. increase or deacrese when the aperature diaphragm is closed? What does that do to the resolution?
Decreases N.A., increases rosolution
Which is better, apochromatic or achromatic?
Apochromatic
What is Koheler Illumination?
Centering and focusing the light source for the max. image quality and highest resolution. Also gives max amount of light and even distribution of light.
How do you avoid empty magnification?
Magnification of an object cannot exceed 1000 times the N.A. of the objective
You cannot use aperture diaphragm to control.....
Brightness
What does the field diaphragm do?
Controls how much light enters the sub-stage condersor and consequently the rest of the microscope.
How does apochromatic differ from achromatic?
Apochromatic is a photographic lense with better correction of chromatic and spherical aberration than achromatic.
What is the purpose of green filters?
Helps achromatic objectives produce their best images because achromats are spherically corrected for green light.
