ISCN London Conference 1963
Consider developments since the Denver conference. Gave official sanction to the classification of the seven groups of chromosomes by the letters A to G.
Clone
clone is a cell population derived from a single progenitor, typical only clones in tumors are reported
e.g. 46,XX,t(9;22)(q34;q11.2)[1]/46,XX[19] |
Terminal deletion
deletions at the end of the chromosomes
e.g. terminal deletion at chromosome 7: 46, XX, del(7)(p11) - only need to include starting point, it is assumed that no end point means to terminal |
Reciprocal translocation
balanced exchanges between nonhomologous chromosomes; chromosomes are listed in numerical order, but when more than 2 chromosomes first chromosome numerically goes first, the next chromosome listed is the one involved with the first chromosome listed
e.g: 46,XX,t(8;14)(q24;q12) or 46,XX,t(8;22;14)(q24;q11;q12) |
Sex chromosomes: constitutional
constitutional would have no comma, no plus and no minus
e.g. 47,XXY or 45, X |
Sex chromosomes: nonconstitutional
nonconstitutional or acquired includes pluses and minuses and commas
e.g. 47, XY, +X or 45,X,-X |
Paracentric inversion
inversions not involving the centromere
e.g. paracentric inversion in chromosome 3: 46, XY, inv(3)(p14p21) - include starting and ending point |
Abbreviations
c - constitutional; t - translocation; der- robertsonian translocation, derivative; dic- dicentric; ins- insertion; del- deletion; dup-duplication; i- isochromes; r- ring; fra- fragile X; mos- mosaicism; chi- chimera

Constitutional mosaicism
when constitutional mosaicism, normal cell line is written last, in regards to abnormal cell lines, larger clone goes first: actual number of cells in brackets
e.g.: 45,X[10]/46,XX[20] & 45.X[15]/47,XXX[10]/46,XX[23] |
