Apostle's Creed
A statement of Christian faith, a faithful summary of the faith of the Apostles
Apparition
An appearance to people on earth of a heavenly being, such as Christ, Mary, or a saint.
Ascension
The takin up of Jesus into Heaven 40 days after the resurrection and witnessed by the Apostles. Ascention Thursday is celebrated 40 days after Easter.
Ash Wednesday
The first day of Lent. By tradition, Catholics have ashes put in their forheads.
Assumption
The taking up of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, into Heaven, celebrated August 15th.
Atheism
The denial in theory and/or practice that God exists. Atheism is a sin against the virtue of religion required by the first commandment of the law.
Ave Maria
Latin words meaning Hail Mary. The first words of the most popular prayer to Mary.
Baptism
The first of the seven scaraments which gives access to the other sacraments. First and chief sacrament of forgiveness of sins because it unites us with Christ, who died for our sins.
