What is criminal law?
-When someone is punished for the offences by the state.
-It protects the individual and prevents harm to others.
-The state only intervene when there is a real justification for interfering with it.
-If someone is going to be involved in criminal law, the crown prosecution service is always brought by the state and the accused person is always known as the defendants.
What is civil law?
-Concerned with addressing harm or loss of earnings, an individual brought on by another person or an organisation.
-The type that will affect most practices in a civil law case, are a breach of contract and actions in tort.
-The person bringing the action is the claimant and the person or organisation alleged to have caused the harm is the defendant.
What is a tort?
Is a civil rather than a criminal, wrong and provides protection for a person's security property and reputation.
If a claimant wins a civil case what may they get?
Awarded compensation or an injunction to prevent further harm.

A statue is a the acts of parliament and forms common law.
