Alpha-methyltyrosine

Tyrosine hydroxalse false substrate. ( inhibitor ) causes depletion of catecholamine.

Used in pheochromocytoma

L-Dopa

Precursor of dopamine. Used in Parkinson. Crosses BBB.

Combined with carbidopa. Carbidopa doesn’t crosses BBB. Carbidopa is a dopa decarboxylase inhibitor.

Alpha-MethylDopa.

2 effects. 1st is that it is a competitive inhibitor of dopa decarboxylase. So no formation of dopamine or NE or adrenaline.

2nd is that it is converted into Alpha-Methylnorepinephrine by dopamine beta hydroxylase. Alpha-Methylnorepinephrine is a alpha2 agonist. So inhibit sympathetic nervous system. Same as clonidine.
