Larsonneur (1933)

D was ordered to leave the UK, went Ireland and was unvoluntarily sent back to the UK where she was arrested for "being an alien to whom leave to land in the UK had been refused"

Gibbons & Procter (1918)

Father of a girl lived with a partner & had several other children. The father and partner kept the girl separate from the other children & deliberately starved her to death. Both were convicted of murder as the father had a duty of care and the partner undertook one.

Stone & Dobinson (1977)

Stone's elderly sister, Fanny, came to live with the D's. Fanny was eccentric and often stayed in her room for several days. She also failed to eat. She eventually became bedridden and incapable of caring for herself. On at least one occasion Dobinson helped to wash Fanny & occasionally prepared food for her. Fanny died from malnutrition, both D's were found.guilty as they had undertook a duty of care towards Fanny.

Evans (2009)

V, aged 16 & a heroin addict, lived with her mother and step-sister. The step-sister bought some heroin and have it to V who self injected. Later it became obvious V had overdosed. Neither the mother nor step sister called for medical help and instead placed V in bed and hoped she would recover. V died. The mother & D were convicted of gross negligence manslaughter.

Dytham (1979)

D was a police officer who was on duty. He saw a man being thrown out from a nightclub about 30 yards from him. Following the throwout, there was a fight in which three men kicked V to death. D took no steps to intervene or summon help & when the fight was over told a bystander that he was going off-duty and walked off. D was convicted of misconduct in a public office.

D was living in a squat and fell asleep smoking a cigarette. He awoke to his mattress on fire and instead of tackling the fire or warning others he instead left the room and went asleep in another bed. The house caught fire & D was convicted of arson.

A policewoman before searching D asked if he had any sharp objects or needles in his.pockets to which D replied no. When the officer searched D she was cut by a needle & D was convicted of s47 OAPA 1861

Lowe (1973)

D was the father of a 9 week old child who became ill and died. D, who was of low intelligence, said he told the mother to take the child to a doctor but he had not done anything else. D was convicted of manslaughter of the baby, but the CA quashed the conviction hmas an omission is not sufficient for manslaughter. Arguably D should have been convicted of gross negligence manslaughter where an omission is sufficient.

Airedale NHS Trust v Bland (1993)

Bland was a young man who had been crushed at Hillsborough in 1989. This left him in a persistent vegetative state and he was in this state for three years before the Doctors asked the court for a ruling that they could stop feeding him. The court ruled they could stop feeding Bland even though it was known he would die as they believed it was in his best interest.
