Types of Hypertension
Two types:

-Essential (primary or idiopathic)

-Secondary
Essential Hypertension
Essential is the most common type which involves several interacting homeostatic mechanisms.
Secondary Hypertension
Secondary would be related to a systemic disease that raises perhiperal vascular resistance or cardiac output.
Diseases that cause Hypertension
Diseases include: Renovascular disease, renal parenchymal disease, pheochromocytoma, primary hyperaldosteroniam, cushing’s disease, and diabetes mellitus.
Understanding Hypertension
The Kidney releases renin into the blood stream>> Renin helps convert angiotensin to angiotensin 1 in the liver>> angiotensin 1 is converted to angiotensin 2 (a potent vasoconstrictor) IN THE LUNGS>> A2 causes arteriolar constriction and ALDOSTERONE SECRETION>>Aldosterone causes Na & H20 retention>> retained Na & H20 increase BLOOD VOLUME>> Arteriolar constriction increases peripheral vascular resistance>> Increased blood volume and vascular resistance cause Hypertension
The Kidney releases ____? into the blood stream>>

#1
The Kidney releases RENIN into the blood stream>>
Renin helps convert ______ to ______ in the liver>>

#2
Renin helps convert ANGIOTENSIN to ANGIOTENSIN 1 in the liver>>
angiotensin 1 is converted to angiotensin 2 in the _______? >>

#3
angiotensin 1 is converted to angiotensin 2 in the LUNGS>>
Angiotensin 2 property
Powerful Vasoconstrictor
A2 causes arteriolar constriction and ________ secretion>>

#4
A2 causes arteriolar constriction and aldosterone secretion>>
Aldosterone causes ____ & ____ retention>>

#5
Aldosterone causes Na & H20 retention>>
retained Na & H20 increase _____ _____>>

#6
retained Na & H20 increase blood volume>>
Arteriolar constriction increases peripheral vascular resistance>>

Increased blood volume and vascular resistance cause Hypertension
Hypertension causes
