Features 0-24s post MI

Gross: dark mottling


Microscopic: Coagulative necrosis, neutrophils, contraction of myofibrils


Comp: HF, Shock, Arrhythmias

1-3 days post MI

Gross: Hyperaemia


Microscopic: Acute inflamm, neutrophils. Extensive necrosis


Complications: Pericarditis (friction rub)

3-14 days post MI

Gross: Yellow and soft. Hyperaemic border.


Microscopic: macrophages, granulation tissue.


Comp: RUPTURE! (Free wall, papillary muscles, IV septum). Pseudo aneurysm

2 weeks + post MI

Gross: grey / white


Microscopic: contracted scar


Comp: Dressler syndrome, HF, arrhythmias, true ventricular aneurysm
