What are the 3 layers of the heart?
Epicardium
Myocardium Endocardium |
What are the 4 chambers of the heart?
Right Atrium
Left Atrium Right ventricle Left ventricle |
What are the 4 valves in the heart?
There are 2 AV valves and the tricuspid and the bicusid
What are the semilunar valves and where are they?
The pulmonic semilunar valve lies between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery
The aortic semilunar valve lies between the left ventricle and the aorta |
What are the semilunar valves for?
They prevent blood from flowing back into the ventricles during relaxation, they open during ventricular contraction
What is the SA node and where is it?
The main pacemaker in the heart and is located at the junction of the superior vena cava and the right atrium
What is the AV node and where is it located?
The AV node receives electrical impulses from the SA node and it is located in the lower aspect of the atrial septum
What is the first heart sound and when is it heard?
S1 and it is heard as the
AV valves close and is heard loudest at the apex |
What is the 2nd heart sound and when is it heard?
S2 and is heard when the semilunar valves close and is heard loudest at the base of the heart
What is the normal heart rate?
60-100 beats per minute
What does the right coronary artery do?
It supplies the right atrium and ventricle, the inferior portion of the left ventricle, the posterior septal wall and the SA and AV nodes
What is the left coronary artery?
It consists of two major branches, the left anterior descending and the circumflex arteries
What does the LAD artery do?
Suuplies blood to the anterior wall of the left ventricle, the anterior ventricular septum, and the apex of the left ventricle
What does the circumflex artery do?
Supplies blood to the left atrium and the lateral and posterior surfaces of the left ventricle
