contrast echo
is an echocardiogram perform to better visualize the cardiac walls a solution is injected to help enhance images
What is the name of the solution we use for contrast?
Definity
When we use contrast echo?
poor image & left ventricle contractivity
When we use a bubble study?
to find an opening or hold know as VSD or ASD and is assess in 2D (Black & White)
How is this procedure work?
A saline solution is injected in the arm, it will appear at the right side of the heart, if before 5 seconds appear on the left side, it will a VSD, ASD, PFO or PDA.
What is the definition of a stress echo?
Is a test the combines an ultrasound study of the heart with a stress test
When is the test echo useful?
in diagnosing coronary heart diseases and the presence of blockages in the coronary arteries, help to estimate the severity of the blockages, if the patient have just undergone balloon angioplasty or bypass surgery can help to monitor the success of the procedure and determine an appropriate rehabilitation program
What views we use for the stress echo?
Before & After PLAX, PSAX (Apex level), Apical 4 & Apical 2
Where is the exercise portion of the test done?
While the patient is walking, the speed and the grade of the treadmill will increase every 3 minutes. The patient blood pressure, EKG and heart will be monitored continuously throughout the test between 3-5 minutes, most patients walk between 6-12 minutes.
When the treadmill test will stop?
The patient get too tired to continue
The patient exceed a target HR base on his/her age
The cardiologist or cardio - tech/ Nurse detects abnormal changes on the EKG.
The patient blood pressure goes up to high.
Is the echo test safe?
posible rare complications include inducing an abnormal heart rate rhythm or causing a heart attack.
Where is this test performed?
In the non - invasive cardiology testing center, cardiac rehabilitation office or in the doctor's office.
How long this test take?
approximately 30 - 45 minutes
What is a Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)?
Is a test the produces pictures of the heart, TEE uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to make detailed pictures of the heart and the arteries that lead to and from it. Unlike a standard echocardiogram, the echo transducer that produces the sound waves for TEE is attached to a thin tube that passes through your mouth, down your throat and into your esophagus, since the esophagus is so close to the upper chambers of the heart very clear images of those heart structures and valves can be obtained
Why TEE is use?
Because the pictures are so clear also when the patient have a tick chest wall, are obese, have bandages of your chest, or are using a ventilator to help you breathe.
What provide a TEE test to the doctor?
Because of the pictures,
the size of the heart and how thick its walls are
how well the heart is pumping
if there is abnormal tissue around the heart valves that could indicate bacterial, viral or fungal infections, or cáncer.
If blood is leaking backward through the heart valves (regurgitation) or if the valves are narrowed or blocked (stenosis)
if blood clots are in the chambers of the heart.
Also often is used during surgery to repair heart valves.
What are the risk of a TEE?
The few risk involve passing the probe from the month down into the throat and esophagus, also a gagging feeling and a sore throat for a day or two
How the patient prepare for this test?
Not drinking alcoholic drinks for a few days before the test, and not to drink anything for at least 4 - 6 hours before the TEE.
What happens during the test?
What happens after TEE?
methodology
preparation for TEE?
pre medications
technique of introduction
Care of TEE probe.
The name of the solution is Zidex
