1) MANAGERIAL: this deals withhow employees are treated through actions and words. It is a vision articulatedby top management.




2) ORGANIZATIONAL: this dealswith outside factors (market, etc.) that define the culture. It incorporatestechnology, job descriptions, and structure (tall vs. flat).

Create a vision for thefuture, develop a model for change, and reward changes.

Recession, deregulation,technological upheavals, social factors, global competition, outsourcing, andmarkets.

Success depends on thecongruence between OD values and organization’s values. The key issue is fitbetween practitioner and client:

COMPATIBILITY OF VALUES –practitioners differ on degree of congruency with client values. Some only helpif personal values are compatible with client and others help as long asoperations are legal.

IMPOSED CHANGE -- OD ideally implementsvoluntarily. Top management may impose program.

PRIORITY OF GOALS -- challengeto develop balanced intervention (one that improves productivity and quality ofwork for members).

What are some OD values?

Respect for people, trust andsupport, power equalization, confrontation and open communication, andparticipation.

There are two separate systems that can be applied in OD.Describe them.

SETPOINT SYSTEM:self-motivated employees are required (ones who can solve problems and look forways to improve processes). This system uses project management and open-bookaccounting.




CULTURE SYSTEM: one whereemployees understand the business and provide thorough attention to finances.
