The Brain Trust
This group included the 1st female Cabinet member, Frances Perkins.
President Roosevelt & Congress drafted and passed legislation between March 9th and June 16th to end the Great Depression
The Hundred Days
These laws formed the CCC, AAA, FERA, TVA, & NIRA as part of the early New Deal programs.
The Supreme Court felt the New Deal was unconstitutional; therefore Pres. Roosevelt decided to increase the number of judges from 9 to 15 & appointed younger ones who would support his reforms
FDR's Court-Packing Scheme
FDR's plan to appoint more younger judges and get older ones (>70yrs. to retire).
She spoke out against racial segretation in public places and for civil rights laws
Eleanor Roosevelt - 1st Lady
Called the "eyes & ears of the President" she traveled and witnessed the problems caused by Great Depression

The Grapes of Wrath
Told the plight of Dust Bowl families in the Great Depression years.

It starred Clark Gable as the leading male actor & showed the devastation of the war on the south
The first female Cabinet member appointed by FDR as Secretary of Interior to help child labor reform and reduce unemployment
Frances Perkins
She was part of the "Brain Trust" set up by FDR
An African-American Athlete in the 1939 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany who defeated Hitler's favored Arian athletes in his own country & stadium
Jesse Owens
He won four gold medals in track and field events at the 1939 Olympics.
