Classified by: amount of service (self, limited, full), product lines, relative price, organizational approach
Agent
wholesaler who represents buyers or sellers on relatively permanent basis, performs only a few functions, does not take title to goods
Broker
wholesaler who does not take title to goods and whose function is to bring buyers and sellers together and assist in negotiation
Category Killer
giant specialty store that carries very deep assortment of a particular line and is staffed by knowledgable employees
Chain Stores
Two or more outlets that are commonly owned and controlled
Convenience Store
small store in residential area, open long hours, 7 days/week, carries limited number of high-turnover convenience goods
Franchise
contractual association between manufacturor, wholesaler, or service organization (franchiser) and independent businesspeople who buy a right to own, operate franchise system
Wheel of Retailing Concept
