Bullying is when someone constantly does or says something to have power over another person.

It can make people feel sad, sick, lonely or frightened. They may feel unsafe and lose confidence. They may not want to go to school.

Why do people bully?

There are many reasons.


Some bullies do it to make people afraid of them.


Some see it as a way of being popular or act tough.


Some do it to get attention or things.


They might be jealous of the person they are bullying.


Some bullies may be being bullied themselves

Verbal - name calling, insulting, gossiping, teasing


Physical - hitting, slapping, pushing, kicking, biting, IKO


Relational - leaving someone out, spreading rumors, turning friends against someone, rejection from group, ignoring.


Cyber bullying - sending unkind messages in chats, spreading rumors on social networks, making nasty comments about pictures or news people share

What should you do if you see bullying?

You should always try to stop it. You should show the bully that what they are doing is harmful and mean. Help the person to tell a grown up that they can trust.
