What is New Liberalism?

It was influenced by the studies of Booth and Rowntree and supported ideas such as much intervention from the state to ensure a minimum standard of living for everyone. New Liberals felt that the state had a duty to provide a 'safety net'. They were worried that British workers and soldiers were unfit and would not be able to compete with foreign industry and armies.
