Cholesterol based sex hormones

Estrogen, progesterone, androgens, and prostaglandins.

Protein based hormones

Follicle stimulating (FSH) Luteinizing (LH) Oxytocin, and gonadotropin releasing (GnRH)

Gonadotropin releasing hormone

(GnRH)

*It's released by hypothalamus

Controls release of FSH and LH by feedback loops

Follicle stimulating hormone

(FSH)

Induces maturity of ovarian follicles

Induces sperm cells in men

Luteinizing hormone

Released by the pituitary gland

Induces maturation of ovarian follicle to ovulation and estrogen release in women

Oxytocin

Released by pituitary gland

Induces smooth muscle contraction in labor

Induces milk let down in lactation

Stress relief and bonder.

Fun fact

Female reproductive cycle varies from 21-35, 28 dat average

Menses

Lasts 2-7 days, 5 day average

Ovulation

Occurs about 14 days BEFORE menses.

The entire Reproductive Cycle

Hormonal

Ovarian

And Endometrial

Fun fact

The follicular phase Day 1-13 occurs in the Ovarian cycle

Fun fact

1.GnRH stimulates FSH AND LH

2. FSH and LH secrete estrogen and follicle development for ovulation

3. Other follicular development is halted because ovulation (14) releases progesterone, which halts GnRH

4. (No pregnancy?) Progesterone drops, queueing GnRH to stimulate the section of FSH AND LH ( a new cycle!)

In pregnancy the corpus luteum (15-28) keeps secreting progesterone, maintaining the endometrium.
