What is a pscyho-visceral reflex?
psychic stimuli (stress) may produce a reflex response in various organs whose innervation is received from the brain (cranial nerves).

alternatively, the psychic stim may work through neuroendocrine axis, effecting profound visceral changes via endocrine control.

stress and anxiety provoke sympathetic NS stim - multiple visceral changes. Extremem cases - adrenal medulla releases volumes of epi and NE into blood - systemic segmental effects
What is somato-somatic reflex? viscero-visceral?
ss - somatic stim produces a reflex response in somatic structure whose innervation is derived from same segment

vv - visceral stim produces a reflex response in visceral structures whose innervation is derived from same segment
What are the major sympathetic innervation areas?
heart - T1-6
resp - T1-6 (2-7)
upper gi - T5-9 -greater splanchnic nerve - celiac ganglion
middle gi - T10-11 - lesser splanchnic nerve - superior mesenteric ganglion
lower gi - T12-L2 - least splanchnic nerve - inferior mesenteric ganglion
kidneys - T10-11
Test/Ovar - T10-11
Leg - T11-L2
What is the role of para/symp on pupils and lens in the eye?
symp - mydriasis (dilate), ciliary muscle relaxes

para - miosis (constrict), ciliary muscle contracts - convex for near vision
What happens to the bladder wall/bladder sphincter during para/symp stim?
para:
wall (detrusor) - contraction
sphincter (trigone) - relax

symp:
wall (detrusor) - relax
sphincter (trigone) - contract
