For trauma on scene time, how long should it be?

10 minutes.

What do you do if an injury site is dressed prior to arrival?

If it's a trusted and known first responder and bleeding is controlled, leave intact.

How do you dress an amputation?

Control hemorrhage, remove any tight bands, clean, place remaining tissue near normal, cover with moist dressing and dry dressing over, splint.

How do you do deal with amputated part?

Try and find it, but don't waste time doing so. If found, rinse with saline if dirty, wrap with moist sterile gauze, place in water-tight container/bag and immerse in cold water (add ice if available).

Compartment syndrome have what S/S?

Calf pain when foot is dorsiflexed

Calf tenderness to palpation

Numbness in 1st webspace

When do you splint major extremity injuries for a load and go situation?

Enroute. Splint on scene if sufficient resources are available for splinting and managing ABCs.

When can a traction splint be applied on scene?

If it's an isolated femur fracture, and is sole cause for hypotension. Patient must have no airway, respiration, or LOC issues.

How do you splint joint injuries?

As found.

Exception is the knee with absent distal pulse. Apply gentle traction unless met with severe pain or resistance.

What happens if circulation is lost after splinting?

Re-manipulate gently or replace in initial position. If not possible, splint as is.

What happens if elbow dislocation has obvious neurovascular compromise?

Contact BHP for advice.

How could you stabalize a fractured mandible?

Apply a roller bandage or apply C-collar. Make sure patient is not vomiting and intra-oral hemorrhage is controlled.

Can you remove impaled object for facial injuries?

Yes, only if through the cheek or compromising airway.

Epistaxis because of trauma, pressure should be held for how long?

10 minutes. In medical, it's 5 minutes.

Do you clean/rinse avulsed teeth?

No. Don't touch the root.

If patient is alert and stable, place it in the socket and have them bite down. If not, transport in cold milk or saline.

Can you apply a cold pack for blunt trauma to scrotum or penis?

Yes, if patient is cooparative.

How do you treat a swollen scrotum?

Cold pack and elevate with a towel roll.

Are bystanders allowed to help with restraining a violent or extremely agitated patient who has had a head injury?

BLS says to "assess the need for police or other bystander assistance prior to restraining the patient..."

What are signs of ICP according to BLS? How should you hyperventilate?

After measures have been taken to mitigate hypoxia and hypotension:

Deteriorating GCS or <9

Assymmetric pupils/motor response

Hyperventilate RR 20-24.

How do you manage CSF leak?

Allow flow to continue unobstructed, place loose gauze to absorb flow.

According to BLS, can you remove the first dressing when controlling wound hemorrhage?

Surprisingly yes if it is blood-soaked. Check to see if pressure is applied to the correct site.

Can you remove an impaled object to the chest according to the BLS?

Never. Even during CPR, you are to only change hand positions.
