Hypovolemic shock

Caused by blood loss, dehydration, sweating,vomiting, or diarrhea

Cardiogenic shock

Cause by heart failure or inadequate functioning of heart

Neurogenic shock

Vasogenic shock caused by loss of vascular control/tone


Respiratory shock

When an airway has been cut off

Metabolic shock

Nom hypovolemic shock


Loss of body builds and acid base balance

Psychogenic shock

Common faint


Sudden reduction of the nerve system


Resulting in vascular dilation

Septic shock

Serve infection and blood vessel damage

Anaphylactic shock

Serve allergic reaction

Symptoms of shock

1. Spaced out/anxious/restless


2. Increase HR and Breathing rate (weak/shallow)


3. Skin moist, cool, pale


4. Dilated pupils


5. Thirsty

Complex partial seizure

Prexeded by an "aura" (person appears dazed and confused)


Random walking, mumbling, head turning, cloth pulling


May cause change in memory/concisousness


Generalized absence seizures

Compete loss of awareness (daydreaming, stare into space, daze)


Minimal movement durning seizure, often not noticed by others


Often occur in children

Two types of absence seizures

1. Typically absence seizure


2. Atypical absence seizure

Typical absence seizure

Non convulsive


Last for less than 10 mins

Atypical absence seizure

Longer in duration


May have loss in muscle tone


Tonic/clonic like movement

Tonic clonic seizure

Generalized convulsion occurring in two phases


1. Tonic phase (muscle stiffen, LossOC)


2. Clonic phase (body jerks, twitchs)


3. May return to tonic

Status epilepticus

If seizure continues for 5 mins call for help in danger for status epilepticus(life threatening)


Hay fever S&S

Irritation of mucous membrane


Runny nose


Inching due to histamine release



Apply cold pack & take antihistamine

Asthma

Localized smooth muscle respiratory spasm


Respiratory distress with wheezing on exhalation

Poison ivy S&S

Dermal reaction


Itching, redness and swelling


Apply cold pack and advise to take antihistamines

Anaphylaxis

Skin: flush, itching, burning, hives, edema, cyanosis


Respiratory: tightness, couch, wheezing


Circulatory: drop of BP, weak pulse, dizzy/faint

Crush syndrome S&S

Injury to tissue (internal & external)


Shock

Management of crush syndrome

Keep crush part cool


Immobilize and much as possible
