What is bloods main function

To transport nutrients and wastes around the body.

Describe an RBC

WBC-phaagocyte

Engulfs pathogens or antigens

WBC-Lymphocytes

They produce antibodies to fight antigens, they stick them together, dissolve them, destroy their toxins. They give long term immunity as they produce immune memory cells.

Describe platelets.

Fragments of dead cells involved in clotting.

What can plasma transport?

Carbon dioxide, nutrients, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, urea, antibodies and hormones.

Why does my heart rate increase when i excersise

The blood must be pumped faster to the respiring muscles to provide energy.

How does smoking cause heart disease?

It causes blood vessels especially arteries to narrow down causing an increase in blood pressure which makes the heart have to work harder causing CHD.
