Describe menstruation using the terms LH, FSH, Granulosa Cells, Estrogen, Corpus Luteum.
FSH induces follicle growth
Follicles secrete estrogen
Estrogen increases LH
LH induces follicles (the follicle travels the fallopian tube), cells around it stay in ovary, to become corpus luteum
Corpus luteum produces progesterone
If no fertilization, then menstruation
If fertilization, embryo will make HCG (like LH) and this causes corpus luteum to keep making progesterone and no menstruation will occur.
What is the inhibitor of the progesterone receptor?
RU-486
After what time will the placenta be able to make progesterone by itself?
3 months
