Bucked shins

Peridotites of the 3rd Metacarpals or metatarsal. Aka shin splint.

Cause by concussion and effects the extensor tendon over the periosteum of the cannon.

Unsoundness, and a blemish if you pinfire

Bowed Tendon

Tenosynovitis of the digital flexor tendons.

Caused by strain due to exertion, blunt traume, or poor bandaging.

Involves the deep flexor tendom, the superficial flexor tendon, and the sheath.

Unsoundness

Popped knees = Carpitis

Inflammation of the carpals.

Due to concussion, trauma or poor conformation.

Radiographic changes to distal radius, distal/proximal row of carpas, and proximal 3rd metacarpals.

Capped Elbow/Shoe Boil

Inflammation, scuffing or callas of the elbow.

Cause by irritation from rear shoe toe, or front shoe heal, or rough floor.

Treat by changing floor, using donut, or changing shoe types.

Blemish

Windpuff/Windgall

Out pocketing of synovial fluid

Cause by strain or trauma to the joint such as change in workload, soft deep footings hard ground.

Swelling between 3rd metacarpals and fetlock.

Blemish. Unsoundness if paired with poor conformation

Sesamoiditis

Inflammation of the proximal sesamoids.

Due to fractures or strains to the ligamentous structure from concussion or poor conformation.

Can treat with saucer pads

Unsoundness. Possibly blemish if severely fractured

Osselets

Traumatic arthritis of the metacarpophalangeal joint (btwn the pastern and fetlock).

Due to concussive trauma such as weighted shoes, work in deep g4ound, and poor conformation.

Unsoundness

Ringbone location classification

High = between the 1st and 2nd phalanx

Low = between the 2nd and 3rd phalanx

Articular = within the joint

Periarticular = around the joint

Ringbone

Exercise intolerance lameness.

Trauma to the joints between the phalanx bones, or to the collateral ligaments.

Caused by wire cutes, trauma, and poor conformation.

Unsoundness. Maybe blemish

Splints

Strains or tears to the interosseous ligaments

Due to poor conformation, trauma, and stress to the limb

Initially firm swelling followed by hard swelling.

Can result in calcification of the ligaments between metacarpals 2 and 3, and metacarpals 3 and 4.

Unsoundness

Sidebone

Exercise intollerance lameness.

Ossification of the collateral cartilages of the 3rd phalanx

Due to concussive traums, poor conformation, improper shoeing, or an un,evened foot.

Undoundness
