Moving west brought up the question of slavery in new territories, so Popular sovereignty became a popular way to resolve this question.
Hoped to see the people's wants come true.
Made the Missouri compromise null and void, allowing slavery to exist on either side of the Boundary (36, 30 parallel)
This message by General Polk shows the feelings of Texas, and the strong intentions of manifest destiny.
This as result began bleeding Kansas and strengthened sectionalism amongst the north and the south.
As war exists, and, notwithstanding all our efforts to avoid it, exists by the act of Mexico herself, we are called upon by every consideration of duty and patriotism to vindicate with decision the honor, the rights, and the interests of our country.”

This increase in sectionalism made for more and more conflicts between the north and south.
This is in turn made slavery a less distant thought, and set the stage nicely for civil war.
