Phagocytosis:
What is a phagocyte? |
A White blood cell that ingests and digests bacteria through the process of phagocytosis.
Phagocytosis: how is the process of detection?
the phagocyte detects the germs by the chemicals they give off, (Chemotaxis).
Phagocytosis: how does the phagocyte ingest the germ?
by rwapping it in pseudopodia to create a vessicle.
Phagocytosis: How does a phagosome form?
By having the bacteria completely being rwapped in pseudopodia, the bubble is called a phagosome.
Pagocytosis: what is a lysosome?
A cell containing powerful enzymes that is able to Digest the bacteria.
Phagocytosis: how does a germ get digested?
the lysosome fusions with the germ, breaking it down to it's chemical components.
Then they are expelled from the phagocyte. |
Phatogens: What are the social Implications of AIDS
- Many orphaned children.
- Social Stigma. - Expensive medication. - Hard to find emploment. - Early deaths mean less working labour meaning less income for Country. |
What is the difference between Virus and bacteria?
Viruses can not reproduce on their own, they Need living cells, and do not have a metabolism.
While bacteria, can reproduce on it's own, does have a metabolism, and don't need living cells for it's reproduction. |
Why are antibiotics not used against viruses?
Because antibiotics stop the metabolism, and since viruses do not have a metabolism, it is uneffective.
The use of antibiotics may harm helpful bacteria in the body as well. |
