What are the differences between cell division & plant cell?
Cell division has the cleavage furrow, during Cytokinesis and Plant Cell is the cell wall and doesnt not have centrioles and it also forms a cell plate during Cytokineseis.
Can you predict the complexity of an organism by the # of chromosomes?
No, You cannot, The death adders fern has over 1200 chromosomes and a human has 46 and humans are more complex then a fern.
What happens in Anaphase?
Chromatids are seperating & pulled towards poles.
Are the # of chromosomes the same for all organisms?
No, because some organisms are more simple or complex than others. For example humans have 46 chromosomes and fruit flies have 8.
Cells spen a majority of their time in what phase of the Cell Cycle?
Interphase
What happens in Prophase?
-chromatin is condensed
-Spindle forms
-nucleouls dissapears
-nuclear envelop starts to disseapear
What happens in Telophase?
-nucleolus reappears
-nuclear membrane reforms
-Spindle disassembles
-Cytokinesis occurs
What happens in Metaphase?
Chromosomes line up on the equator w/one chromatid on each side of the equator.
What are the 3 steps to binary fission?
1- Duplication of chromosomes and seperation of copies.
2-Continued elongation, and begins to divide
3- Divison into 2 daughter cells, and cell wall is formed
What happens in each of the 3 main phases of interphase?
G1- cell increases in supply of proteins, and increases the # of some organelles, grows in size.
S- DNA synthesis or copies itself
G2- proteins are synthesized, and more metabolic activity
What are homologous pairs?
They are identifies by band like things on the chromosomes and they are the same size, shape, and carry genes for the same traits.
What is the G0 phase?
The G0 phase is when the cell exits the cell cycle. Metabolic activity continues but the cell does not divide.
What are the 3 main phases of Interphase?
-G1
-S
-G2
What are the differences between sex chromosomes and autosomes?
Sex chromosomes determine the sex of a chromosome and have half the # of chromosomes, and 2 in humans. Autosomes are all chromosomes that do not determine sex and have both sets of chromosomes for each possible pair and there are 44 in humans
