Photosynthesis

The process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesis food from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.

Cellular Respiration

What cells do to breakup sugars into a form that the cells can use as energy. This happens in all forms of life. It takes in food and uses it to create ATP, a chemical the cell uses for energy.

Chloroplast

A plastid that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.

Chlorophyll

A green pigment, present in all green plants and in cyan bacteria, responsible for the absorption of light to provide energy for photosynthesis.

Grana

The stack of thylakoids embedded in the stroma of a chloroplast.
