What are the 5 stages of Mitosis?

Interphase

Prophase

Metaphase

Anaphase

Telophase

What happens in Interphase?

Cells prepare to divide, genetic material doubles, DNA replicates itself

What happens in Prophase?

Chromosomes pair up; thicken and shorten, become visible.

2 chromatids join by a centromere.

Centrioles move to opposite sides of the nucleus

Nucleolus disappears

Nuclear membrane disintegrates

Metaphase?

Chromosomes meet in the middle, arrange at the equator of the cell, become attached to a spindle fibre by centromere. Homogenous chromosomes do not associate

Anaphase?

Chromosomes get pulled apart, spindle fibres contract pulling chromatids to the opposite poles of the cell.

Telophase?

Chromosome uncoil, spindle fibres disintegrate, centrioles replicate, nuclear membrane divides. Cells divide.
