What components are common to all cells?
Plasma membrane, chromosomes, ribosomes, & cytoplasm
Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
Pros have no membrane around the nucleus, are smaller. have a stronger cell wall, and have flagella outside the cell
What are organelles?
The little organs of the cell in the cytoplasm
Endomembrane system
The membranes within the cell
Vesicles
Sacs of membrane used for transport
Endoplasmic Reticlum (ER)
Smooth - no attached ribosomes, synthesizes lipids & phospholipids, stores calcium / Rough - has ribosomes, makes more membrane & glycoproteins that are transported out in vesicles
Golgi Apparatus
Receives and modifies products made by the ER
Lysosomes
Made of digestive enzymes that process nutrients
Name and give the functions of the cell junctions
Tight - prevent leakage of fluids / Anchoring - fasten cells together in sheets / Gap - allow flow between neighbors
Describe the functions of the cytoskeleton
It's a network of proteins fibers that enable cells to move and change shape.
