Interphase

Cell grows and develops

Towards the end, DNA doubles (chromosomes)

Early Prophase

The chromatin condenses to form chromosomes.

The centrioles move toward the poles. Spindle fibres form.

Late Prophase

The nuclear envelope breaks down.

Each chromosome is connected to a spindle fibre at its centromere.

Metaphase

The chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell.

Anaphase

The sister chromatids separate into individual chromosomes and move to opposite poles.

Telophase and Cytokinesis

The mitotic spindle breaks down, and two new nuclei form.

The chromosomes lose their distinct shape.

The cytoplasm and the cell membrane pinch in half to form two new daughter cells.

Four types of plant tissues?

Meristematic tissue

Ground Tissue

Vascular Tissue

Epidermal Tissue

Four types of plant organs?

Leaf

Stem

Root

Flower

Function of Meristematic Tissue?

Responsible for the division of cells for growth or repair

Performs unsynchronized mitosis.

Function of Ground tissue?

Performs synthesis.

Provides structural support

Stores nutrient.

Function of Vascular tissue?

Controls the movemen of fluids/nutrients via the xylem and phloem.

Provides physical support

Responsible for the growth of the tree

Function of Epidermal tissue?

Allows carbon dioxide, water vapour and oxygen to move into or out of a leaf quickly via the stomata.

Function of a leaf?

Performs photosynthesis

Moves water and nutrients up from the roots (Evapotranspiration)

Function of a Stem?

Transports nutrients and water from the roots to the leaves/flowers via the xylem and phloem.

Funtion of a Root?

Absorbs water and minerals from the soil.

Transports the water and minerals in the soil up to the leaves and fruits through the stem.

Function of a Flower?

Produce seeds through sexual reproduction.

How do cancer cells arise?

When a cell divides itself uncontrollably.

What is the difference between normal cells and cancer cells?

Cancer cells divide uncontrollably.

Normal cells divide in a controlled manner and die.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are unspecialized cells

What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis?

6CO² + H²O > C6H12O6 + 6O²

What does the digestive system do?

Breaks down food and absorbs their nutrients into the blood stream for use inside the body.

What does the excretory system do?

Filter and detoxifies the bloodstream.

What does the muscular system do?

Responsible for all movement in the body.

What does the respiratory system do?

Provides blood cells with oxygen and takes away carbon dioxide.

What does the integumentary system do?

Bring nutrients and oxygen to the skin and secrets sweat when the body needs to cool down.
