What are the 3 strands to the biological approach?
Genes, Central Nervous System (CNS) and stress response
Explain Genes
Genes are hereditary and we need to pass them on to the next generation to promote survival
Explain the CNS
CNS a person can inherit either a STABLE CNS or a Labile CNS. A stable CNS means that the person is quite introverted and needs lots of stimulation as it does not change easily.
A Labile CNS is does not need much stimulation as it easily changes and is very responsive to stimul. and means that the person is extroverted |
Explain the stress response system
Flight or fight reponse, experience a stessor body releases adrenalin or endorphins. endorophins ar a matural painkiller and addictive. selye - stress has 3 stages (ALARM, RESISTANCE, EXHAUSTION). EXHAUSTION = develop illness because immunosuppression and low sex drive. SAM/HPA

What behaviours can the biological approach explain?
Reproduction: Producing offspring to carry on pur genes.
Attract a mate or partner- Social places to meet new people Vanity- Make sure we look attractive to attract member of opposite sex-- Forms of display Inherit- Problems, mental physical risky- to get endorphins-- Stress response Stable CNS= introverted, not out alot Labile CNS= outgoing extroverted |
