What kind of seaweed is used to wrap sushi?
porphyra (nori)
Pigment found in rhodophyta
phycoerythrin
Endotoxin
potentially toxic, natural compounds found inside pathogens such as bacteria. Toxin is not secreted in soluble form by live bacteria, but is a structural component in the bacteria which is released mainly when bacteria are lysed.
Exotoxin
soluble protein excreted by a microorganism, including bacteria, fungi, algae, and protozoa. An exotoxin can cause damage to the host by destroying cells or disrupting normal cellular metabolism. Both gram negative and gram positive bacteria produce exotoxins. They are highly potent and can cause major damage to the host. Exotoxins may be secreted, or, similar to endotoxins, may be released during lysis of the cell.
Where do carageenans come from?
red algae, freshwater
Which group of seaweed is heavily calcified?
Charophycean
What is a morel?
genus of edible mushrooms closely related to anatomically simpler cup fungi. These distinctive mushrooms appear honeycomb-like in that the upper portion is composed of a network of ridges with pits between them.
What is a protistan that causes amoebic dysentary?
Entamoeba histolytica
What mechanisms does vitroviruses use to make DNA?
?
Which viral invasion causes the most dreadful disease to human?
?
Which T cell does the HIV virus attack?
?
Smallpox-name of virus
Variola
Rabies-name of virus
lyssavirus
Gram positive and gram negative
Gram-positive bacteria have more peptidoglycan layers in their cell walls than Gram-negative and so are able to retain a crystal violet dye during the Gram stain process. Gram-positive bacteria appear blue or violet under a microscope, whereas Gram-negative bacteria appear red or pink.
Ascomycota-naked spores found in ascocorp
