Hyaline cartilage

The most abundant in the body, is ridged and located at the ends of bones.

Fibrocartilage

Absorb shock. Forms the meniscus, between the vertebrae and pubic symphysis.

Elastic cartilage

Dense fiber more flexible than hyaline and compose the external ear and pharynx.

Epiphysis bone (plural, epiphyses)

The end of a long bone that is an expanded portion, which articulates (forms a joint) with another bone.

Articular cartilage

Is hyaline cartilage that covers the ends of bones in synovial joints and is on the outer surface or the articulating portion of the epiphysis.

Diaphysis

Is the shaft of the long bone, between the epiphyses.

Periosteum

Is dense connective tissue covering the surface of a bone and completely encloses the bone, except for the articular cartilage on the bone’s ends.
